A high school student from Texas has developed an artificial intelligence platform aimed at identifying cyber fraudsters, earning her the title of "Kid of the Year" from a prominent magazine. In a recent discussion, 17-year-old Tejasvi Manoj shared that her 85-year-old grandfather almost fell victim to a scam involving a $2,000 transfer, but family members intervened just in time. Tejasvi began her programming journey at the age of 13, with support from her parents, who both work in the IT field. Together, they created the Shield Seniors platform, which utilizes AI technology. This tool allows users to submit dubious texts or messages, which the AI can evaluate and categorize as either scams or legitimate communications with an impressive accuracy rate of up to 95%. To cater to the needs of older adults, the platform features a user-friendly chatbot that provides responses in clear, concise language and displays them in large font. "When you ask ChatGPT or Gemini about cybersecurity, they tend to deliver lengthy explanations filled with complex terms. While that may suit some individuals, it often overwhelms many seniors," Tejasvi noted.
