Over 260 Doctors from 60 Countries Evaluate 600,000 Responses from ChatGPT Health Over Two Years

OpenAI has revealed that more than 260 practicing physicians from 60 countries have been involved in assessing the responses generated by ChatGPT Health over the past two years. The medical professionals reviewed a staggering 600,000 outputs from the model across 30 different areas of healthcare. This product was initially announced on January 7, 2026, and became available to selected users aged 18 and over in the United States via web and iOS platforms in July.

ChatGPT Health functions as a distinct interface within the main ChatGPT framework, designed to integrate with medical records and fitness applications, allowing responses to be tailored to individual user data. However, OpenAI emphasizes that the product is not intended for diagnostic purposes and does not replace the advice of healthcare professionals. Notably, the data generated from Health dialogues is not utilized for training the foundational models.

The feedback from these healthcare specialists has significantly influenced how the system formulates its recommendations, when it advises users to consult a specialist, and how it handles potentially misleading or dangerous responses. Concurrently, the company has developed HealthBench, a benchmarking tool for evaluating the quality of medical responses, which also involved the same group of physicians.

For medical teams, the distinction is critical: the expert assessment of the model is not the same as clinical validation, and there has been no published data regarding actual patient outcomes following interactions with ChatGPT Health. The product remains a reference tool, calibrated by medical professionals, rather than a substitute for medical advice.

This involvement of a large number of healthcare professionals underscores the growing importance of expert input in the development of AI-driven medical tools, positioning OpenAI to strengthen its credibility in a competitive market. As AI continues to integrate into healthcare, the collaboration between technology developers and medical experts will be essential for ensuring both safety and effectiveness.
