Google Expands Gemini AI Support in Sheets to Millions Worldwide

Google has announced a major expansion of its Gemini artificial intelligence capabilities within the Google Sheets platform, now accessible to millions of users globally. This advancement allows users to create and edit spreadsheets in their native languages, making data management more intuitive than ever.

Previously, features such as generating entire spreadsheets or complex pivot tables via text prompts were limited to English-speaking users in the United States. With this latest update, Google is lifting those restrictions, introducing support for 28 additional languages, including Russian, Spanish, Portuguese, Japanese, and Arabic.

This initiative aims to enhance collaboration in international teams where members communicate in diverse languages, thereby simplifying data handling for a global audience. To access these new features, users must activate smart functions within Google Workspace. Once enabled, the Gemini icon will appear in the Sheets sidebar, allowing users to issue commands in their preferred language. For instance, users can instruct the AI to "create a budget tracking spreadsheet" or "add a column with a formula to calculate profits."

The expanded language support is available for various user categories, including business clients on Business Standard and Business Plus plans, enterprise users on Enterprise Standard and Enterprise Plus, educational clients with Google AI Pro for Education subscriptions, and individual subscribers to Google AI Pro and AI Ultra.

This development not only broadens Google's market reach but also enhances competition among tech firms, as they strive to meet the needs of a more linguistically diverse user base.
