France to Test Its Own Version of the US Maven Combat System

France is set to evaluate a domestic counterpart to the American Maven combat management system during NATO exercises. The new system, named Arcadia, has been developed collaboratively by several European companies, including Mistral AI, Safran.AI, Thales, and Airbus. Prior to this upcoming test, Arcadia was already trialed in Romanian and French military exercises known as Dacian Fall and Orion 26, respectively. General Patrick Justel, Deputy Chief of Staff of the French Army, emphasized that Arcadia is designed as a response to Maven, which is currently utilized within NATO. He raised concerns regarding digital sovereignty, questioning whether reliance on Maven is prudent or if alternative solutions should be pursued. The development comes in light of recent observations about the threats posed by the expanding collaboration between Kyiv and Palantir, the company behind Maven, which has the capability to leverage artificial intelligence for data collection and target identification. This move signifies France's commitment to enhancing its military technology and autonomy, potentially affecting the dynamics within the defense sector and prompting competitors to reassess their strategies.
