Anthropic is on the hunt for a researcher skilled in chip design to assist in the reinforcement learning training of AI for processor creation. The goal is for this expert to impart their knowledge to Claude, the AI. Claude will be programmed to generate code that defines a chip's circuitry, identify any defects within it, and determine the most efficient physical arrangement of the chip. This initiative is particularly strategic for the startup as it works towards developing its own AI accelerator. In June, Clive Chan, a prominent AI chip engineer, transitioned from OpenAI to join Anthropic. The company has also recently advertised a position for a Silicon Engineer. An internal team at Anthropic will oversee the complete processor design process, encompassing both design and testing, with Claude playing a direct role in the operation. In July, Anthropic engaged in discussions with Samsung regarding the production of a custom chip utilizing a 2-nanometer manufacturing process and sought supplies from SK Hynix for its semiconductor production. Anthropic's CEO, Dario Amodei, confirmed that agreements had been made with both South Korean companies, although further specifics were not disclosed.
