According to the U.S. National Bureau of Economic Research, a recent survey of 750 high-ranking executives from major corporations suggests that artificial intelligence will lead to the elimination of at least 500,000 jobs in the United States this year. Approximately 44% of these companies have indicated plans for job reductions linked to AI. This figure represents a significant increase, being nine times higher than the layoffs attributed to AI in the previous year. While this number accounts for roughly 0.4% of the total workforce, it constitutes no more than 2.4% of the overall layoffs reported in the U.S. last year, which amounted to 21.2 million individuals. John Graham, a professor at Duke University and one of the study's authors, stated, "It's not the doomsday job scenario that you might sometimes see in the headlines." The research indicates that larger firms will bear the brunt of AI-related job losses, while smaller businesses may actually see new job opportunities arise.
