The new model, named GPT Bidi 1, has already begun rolling out to select users and is expected to be publicly available within the week. This advanced model allows for simultaneous speaking and listening, enabling more fluid conversations.
The first indications of this upgrade were spotted in the app's code by a tech resource last week. Described as a major leap in voice interaction capabilities, Bidi 1 will provide users with more natural responses during conversations, adjusting its output based on pauses or changes in user input without interruption.
A notable feature of this upgrade is its ability to maintain context during lengthy discussions, a significant improvement over the current voice mode, which often loses track of previous information. Bidi 1 will also adapt quickly to task changes; for instance, if a user requests the model to count to ten and then suddenly asks it to count backward, the model will seamlessly switch tasks.
In the settings, users will find Bidi 1 listed alongside the standard and enhanced voice modes. Once activated, the voice icon will change to yellow, signaling the new capabilities.
