In an innovative twist, every character in the newly released Czech game Scarlet Deer Inn appears as though they have been hand-stitched, and in fact, they have. The game’s animation frames were initially designed digitally, then transformed into embroidery patterns and meticulously stitched onto fabric by an embroidery machine. After this, the embroidered works were scanned, refined digitally, and subsequently integrated into the game. Notably, the main character alone necessitated the creation of hundreds of these embroidered frames. This remarkable project was developed over a span of seven years by a husband-and-wife duo, Eva Navratilová and Lukáš Navrátil. Throughout the development process, they reimagined the game’s visual style multiple times before ultimately opting for the embroidery technique, which they described as simply "cool." Eva Navratilová shared, "We wanted to explore this because we have a passion for various crafts and handmade creations. While a few artists are using embroidery for animation, no one has truly developed a full game with it." The game has garnered an impressive nearly 90% positive feedback on Steam, and players can try out a free demo. Would you be interested in giving it a go?
