OpenAI has officially rolled out its new service, ChatGPT Health, to all ChatGPT users in the United States aged 18 and over. This innovative platform allows users to connect their medical records and health-tracking data, incorporating these into the chatbot's responses. According to Ashley Alexander, OpenAI's Vice President of Medical Products, the AI models are capable of reasoning at a level that surpasses that of practicing physicians. However, Karan Singhal, the head of OpenAI's medical division, urges caution regarding this assessment, despite studies from prestigious institutions like Harvard and Stanford suggesting that AI is indeed capable of such abilities.
The wide launch of ChatGPT Health comes just weeks after OpenAI introduced its latest model, GPT-5.6 Sol. Users can now directly ask health-related questions in the main ChatGPT interface without navigating to a separate health section. Moreover, users have the flexibility to choose which data to share with ChatGPT. They can connect post-visit notes from their doctors, lab results, medication information, and data from various health services, including Apple Health, Weight Watchers, and MyFitnessPal.
OpenAI emphasizes that ChatGPT Health is designed to support users rather than replace professional medical advice. Throughout the interaction, all communications are encrypted, adding an extra layer of security for medical information. The service will be accessible to authorized users of the web version and the iOS app, available in free and paid tiers including Go, Plus, and Pro.
