Cybersecurity experts from Arctic Wolf have uncovered the identity of a developer associated with the LightSpy surveillance system, thanks to an overlooked KFC order that had remained in the code for four and a half years. This order, initially intended as test data for a feature that showed information obtained from food delivery services, surprisingly included the developer's actual last name, phone number, and office location in Shenzhen, which is conveniently just a ten-minute walk from the KFC outlet. By utilizing the phone number, researchers were able to pinpoint the developer's identity and trace the company responsible for LightSpy, a surveillance tool implicated in cyberattacks across at least 13 nations. Arctic Wolf has announced its intention to report these findings to the FBI.
