Is a Lunar Hotel Set to Open by 2032?

A San Francisco-based startup, GRU Space, has ambitious plans to establish a hotel on the moon by the year 2032. The company is already accepting reservations, with prices ranging from $250,000 to $1 million. Between 2029 and 2032, GRU Space intends to conduct three lunar missions to deploy sealed, inflatable habitat modules. Looking ahead, the company aims to construct hotels using bricks sourced from the moon's surface. Initially, the estimated cost for a single night’s stay could reach approximately $417,000, but there are aspirations to reduce this price to about $83,000 in future phases. The founders of GRU Space believe that space tourism could significantly contribute to the growth of the lunar economy. However, the project is not without its challenges. The startup currently lacks its own rockets and advanced technology, and its promotional materials appear to be computer-generated imagery. Additionally, there are uncertainties regarding regulatory approvals. The founder, 22-year-old Skyler Chan, possesses limited experience in the field, having only completed a four-month internship at Tesla after earning his bachelor's degree from the University of California, Berkeley. Will a hotel on the moon ever become a reality?
