In 2025, the median salary for IT professionals in Ukraine stood at $2,900, with half of the workforce earning above this threshold. The average salary was slightly higher at $3,373, bolstered by a group of highly compensated specialists. Interestingly, the distribution of earnings among IT workers revealed that 10.9% earned less than $1,000, while 10.7% received $6,000 or more.
According to a salary survey conducted by Dou, around 22.5% of IT specialists earned between $1,000 and $2,000 monthly, while another 20% made between $2,000 and $3,000. Approximately 19% of professionals earned between $4,000 and $6,000.
Despite fluctuations in salaries, the percentage of IT specialists earning over $6,000 has remained relatively stable, with 8.9% in 2025 compared to 9.2% in 2023. The highest concentration of high earners was among Lead+ positions, where approximately 25% received over $6,000. Senior specialists also made up about 14% of this high salary segment. However, the competition for these salaries has intensified, making it more challenging for top titles to secure compensation exceeding $6,000.
The most significant drop was observed among managers, whose high salary segment shrank notably from 2023 to 2025. In the leadership roles, the proportion of those earning above $6,000 decreased from 62.9% in 2023 to 46.7% in 2025. Conversely, the share of Product/Project managers earning more than $6,000 nearly doubled from 5% to 10% during this period, indicating a shift in salary dynamics.
Factors influencing the likelihood of achieving high salaries include job title, years of experience, and proficiency in English. Those in Lead+ roles have a 60 percentage point increase in their chances of earning over $6,000, while managers and senior specialists see boosts of 41 and 40 points, respectively. Notably, experience in the IT field significantly enhances the probability of reaching high salary brackets, particularly for those with over ten years in the industry.
The type and size of the employer also play crucial roles. Working for startups, freelancing, or being employed by product or outsourcing companies increases the chances of earning more than $6,000. Smaller and larger companies tend to offer such high salaries less frequently, positioning freelancers and those working for foreign employers as advantageous players in the market.
Geographical factors reveal that IT professionals in Lviv have similar salary prospects to those in Kyiv, while those planning to return from abroad have higher chances of earning over $6,000 compared to local residents. However, women and older professionals tend to have lower probabilities of entering the $6,000+ salary bracket, which may point to differing salary expectations and employer attitudes across age and gender.
Overall, these trends highlight a competitive landscape in the Ukrainian IT market, where specific roles, experience levels, and employment types significantly impact earning potential. As companies adapt to these shifts, both existing players and new entrants must navigate these dynamics to attract and retain top talent.
