Goldman Sachs Acquires $4.4 Billion Stake in Nebius

Goldman Sachs has significantly increased its investment in Nebius, formerly known as Yandex, acquiring a 9.1% stake valued at approximately $4.46 billion. This move comes as the American bank positions itself as a major player in the artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure sector. By the end of June 2026, Goldman Sachs held a 6.2% share in Nebius, which grew to 9.1% by the end of July 2026, according to disclosures made to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

As part of this strategic partnership, Goldman Sachs has been designated as the exclusive financial advisor to Nebius, focusing on investment opportunities in AI infrastructure. The bank has recognized Nebius as one of the key beneficiaries of the ongoing surge in AI investments, joining a list that includes tech giants like Apple, Oracle, and AMD.

Nebius, which was historically associated with the Russian tech giant Yandex, was restructured and sold to a consortium of Russian investors for 475 billion rubles in 2024. The company has since pivoted towards the development of data centers for AI in the United States and Europe, with Arkady Volozh, the founder of Yandex, returning to lead Nebius.

Financially, Nebius has shown remarkable growth, with its revenue nearly sextupling in 2025 to reach $529.8 million. Despite reporting a negative adjusted EBITDA of $64.9 million, the company has also turned a profit of $29 million, a significant turnaround from a loss in the previous year.

This substantial investment from Goldman Sachs signals a strong vote of confidence in Nebius and the broader AI market, indicating a competitive landscape as other firms may look to boost their presence in this rapidly evolving sector.
