Gemini Watermarks Discovered in War Thunder Assets

Players of War Thunder have detected Gemini watermarks embedded in various in-game items that were available for purchase. In response, Gaijin Entertainment has recognized the problem, eliminated the contentious assets, and initiated an internal investigation regarding its contractors. The studio revealed that a third-party team improperly utilized AI technology to process references and create materials without proper authorization. Gaijin stated that this action breached their internal policies, which prohibit contractors from employing generative AI, and the oversight managed to evade quality control checks prior to the assets' release. The affected items included camouflage designs for the M60 tank and certain decorative features in the Challenger 2 OES pack. However, Gaijin dismissed an additional assertion regarding the Yak-130 model, clarifying that the symbol resembling a Gemini watermark was actually a legitimate technical marking sourced from aircraft reference images. The ongoing debate surrounding the appropriateness of AI-generated textures in video games continues, with opinions divided on whether such practices are acceptable or merely a cost-cutting measure at the expense of skilled artists.
