The cloud services market experienced its highest growth rate in eight years during the second quarter of 2026, with expenditures soaring more than $43 billion year-on-year to reach a total of $143 billion. This marks a significant increase from the previous quarter, where the global cloud infrastructure market stood at $128.6 billion. The market has now doubled in size over recent years, with a remarkable 43% growth in Q2 alone, primarily driven by advancements in generative AI technology.
Amazon continues to dominate the cloud services sector, followed closely by Microsoft and Google, both of which are showing significantly higher growth rates. The market shares for these top companies in Q2 were 28%, 20%, and 15%, respectively. Among secondary providers, CoreWeave, OpenAI, Oracle, Crusoe, Nebius, Anthropic, and Nscale have reported the fastest growth rates.
According to John Dinsdale, chief analyst at Synergy Research Group, AI technologies are propelling unprecedented growth in the cloud sector. The majority of cloud infrastructure spending is concentrated in public IaaS and PaaS, which have seen a 47% increase. The top three leaders in the public cloud market now account for 67% of the total market share. Recent trends indicate that the United States has increased its share of the global market, reflecting the extensive development of infrastructure by both hyperscalers and cloud-native firms in the country.
The growth of the cloud market is not confined to the U.S.; regions including India, Indonesia, Ireland, Thailand, and Malaysia are experiencing growth rates that significantly exceed the global average. The U.S. market growth has been particularly notable, surging by 49% in the past quarter, far outpacing the overall global figure. In Europe, the U.K. and Germany remain leaders, although the fastest growth has been observed in Ireland, Norway, Denmark, and Finland.
This surge in cloud services indicates a robust market environment, positioning leading companies favorably against emerging competitors and highlighting the transformative impact of AI technologies across industries.
