A groundbreaking supercomputer cluster has been launched in the central Chinese province of Henan, marking a significant advancement in the field of scientific artificial intelligence. Developed by Dawning Information Industry, also known as Sugon, this state-of-the-art facility comprises 60,000 specialized processors aimed at accelerating AI-driven computations.
This new cluster is the largest of its kind in China, specifically designed for "AI for Science" (AI4S), an area where artificial intelligence models assist researchers in addressing complex challenges across various domains, including drug development, new material creation, and environmentally friendly energy solutions.
The cluster is now integrated into China's national supercomputer network, which connects supercomputers nationwide, thereby eliminating previous technical barriers that hindered the collaborative use of computational resources. With this integration, the national network now boasts over 3 million traditional CPU cores and more than 200,000 GPUs, establishing the largest AI4S infrastructure in the country.
The national supercomputer network was developed under the guidance of the Ministry of Science and Technology, providing university researchers, institutions, and even small enterprises access to world-class computational capabilities without the necessity of investing in expensive data centers.
This development not only enhances China's capabilities in scientific research but also positions the country as a formidable player in the global AI landscape, potentially influencing market dynamics and competition in the field.
